Rotate the shaft counterclockwise by turning the shaft knob until you can no longer turn the shaft. 5. Pull out the shaft completely, close the valve, and the valve stem is perpendicular to the flow direction. 6. Loosen and remove the shaft connecting nut from the valve body, remove the old valve core, and install a new valve core.
