Proper Lubrication Steps 1. Degrease the chain using a designated chain cleaner tool filled with a bike-specific degreaser. Follow instructions, wrap the tool around the chain, and backpedal for thorough cleaning and degreaser collection. 2. If no special tool available, use a brush (e.g. toothbrush or nail brush) with a degreaser. Apply degreaser to brush, hold against the top and bottom of the chain, and backpedal. Focus on the section below the drivetrain. 3. Clean off excess degreaser by rubbing the chain with soapy water and rinsing. 4. Choose appropriate lube: wet lube for wet, muddy conditions, and dry lube for dry conditions. 5. Apply lube to the chain by placing a small drop on each roller, aiming for the inside. Avoid getting lube on the outside to prevent dirt buildup. 6. Wipe off excess lube and get ready to ride! Chain Installation 1. Loosen the pin pusher arm and adjustment bolt. 2. Slide the chain breaker onto the chain and tighten the adjustment bolt until it makes solid contact with the chain's side plate. 3. To break the linkages, gradually tighten the pin push arm in a clockwise direction. 4. You need to break the new chain to the proper length before installing it. After you've established the ideal length, eliminate any extra links with the chain breaker. 5. The new chain should be installed around the smallest rear cog and front chainring. Using half-mounting pins, insert the inner link into the outer link to attach the chain. Now, replace the pins in the inner and outer links using the chain breaker.
