Bilstein 5100 shocks utilize a monotube design, with a 46mm digressive piston, to increase road handling characteristics both on and off-road. The single tube body allows for rapid heat transfer between the shock oil to the shock body, and then dissipated further to reduce shock fade. German engineering combined with US manufacturing ensures optimum performance and longevity for upwards of 100k miles (real customer feedback!). The 5100 series is more compliant in tougher situations and off-road terrain compared to the 4600 series. Factory spec vehicles should use the 4600 series shocks as the valving is more appropriate for daily driven vehicles and pavement environments.
I installed these Bilstein 5100 shocks on my 2003 F-250, and while they do perform okay, I expected a bit more given the hype. They’re definitely better than stock, but I was hoping for a more responsive ride with my new lift. Just average for me.

Failed After a Few Months
I had high hopes for the Bilstein 5100 shocks, but mine stopped working after only a few months of use on my 2004 F-250. They were installed correctly, so I’m really disappointed they didn’t hold up better. Would not buy again.

Great Upgrade for My F-250!
I recently installed the Bilstein 5100 gas shocks on my 2002 F-250 and the difference is amazing. The ride is so much smoother now, even off-road. I went with the 0-2.5 inch lift and it looks fantastic!

Solid Performance but Installation Took Time
The Bilstein 5100 shocks work well on my 2000 Ford F-250. They improved the handling, but I gotta say, the installation was a bit tricky. Took me a few hours to get everything lined up right, but worth it in the end!
