Made from crushed volcanic rock, Their Lava Mat has similar benefits as Their HP Heatshield Mat with that trick carbon fiber look. This heat shield insulator helps to reflect radiant heat away to provide an air box heat shield or a heat shield barrier for your carbon fiber or fiberglass hood. The Lava Mat can also be laid on a fire wall to shield radiant heat and give your vehicle that trick carbon fiber look. The Lava Mat withstands 1200F direct continuous and 1800F intermittent. This heat shield barrier cloth, can be used with less than 1 of airspace, 3/8 minimum is recommended. Bulk rolls of basalt heat shield cloth are available.
I used this Lava Heat Shield Mat on my motorcycle to protect the body from exhaust heat, and it fits perfectly! The 12x24 size is just right, and the adhesive is holding up well after a few rides. Very happy with my purchase!

Decent but tricky to install
The mat itself seems sturdy, but I had a bit of a struggle getting it to stick where I needed it. Once it’s on, it works well at insulating, but the installation could be easier. Just be ready for some trial and error!

Ripped during application
I really wanted to like this product, but the adhesive backing tore when I was trying to apply it. It still works, but I'm worried about how long it will last. Maybe I just got a defective piece?

Heat management improved!
So far, this heat shield mat has done wonders for keeping the heat down. I put it on the firewall of my car and noticed a difference right away. The lava design looks good too!

Solid product but tough to cut
This heat shield mat works well for insulating heat, but cutting it to fit my needs was a bit harder than expected. It’s good quality, and it does reduce the heat coming through. Just be patient when trimming it down!
