SeaSierra 27021 Skeg Repair Guard for Mercruiser Alpha 1 One Gen 1 Stern Drive Replace part number: 27021 35-SS605 Application: Fits Mercuriser Stern Drive: Alpha I 1985-1990 Installation Step: STEP 1. Ensure proper fit before installing the Skeg Protector Guard. There must be at least two to three inches of upper skeg remaining to secure the new Skeg Protector Guard to. lf any portion of the skeg has been bent or distorted, fitment may be difficult without re-conforming to original shape. STEP 2. Any spurs or jagged edges should be filed smooth, so the Skeg Protector Guard can easily slide over the existing skeg. STEP 3. Place the guard on the skeg, use a leather, rubber or wooden mallet, gently tap on it to get it started until fully seated. STEP 4. Using the two pre-drilled mounting holes in the Skeg Protector Guard as pilot holes, drill the skeg using a 1/4 drill bit, and install the stainless steel hardware using the hex key tool supplied with the product. The hardware includes a thread locker sealant to prevent loosening of the bolts once installed.
I had high hopes for this skeg guard, but it didn't fit my 1986 Mercruiser as advertised. It was challenging to get it mounted securely, and now I’m a bit worried about its effectiveness. Will look for alternatives.

Good but could improve packaging
The skeg protector works fine, but when it arrived, the packaging was a bit damaged which made me worry. Once I installed it on my 1990 Mercruiser, it fit perfectly. Just wish the box had been sturdier!
